West Village 2013
Christopher Makos

So it’s no wonder, then, that this interest carried over into his work with Mr. Solberg. The Hilton Brothers are known for juxtaposing similar images from different perspectives, or combining disparate images to make a cohesive work of art. Which perhaps explains the trace of his hand that we find laced throughout his photos displayed here, which he took in New York City before leaving to visit the Warhol exhibit in China. Whether it’s a vague imprint of his thumb on the periphery of a photo, or two photos of the same image that highlight the photographer’s perspective, we get a feeling that Makos is bestowing us with a singular point of view.
